A Safe Place to Land
Birds that are accepted by us for surrender (please inquire first) are to be brought to:
Meika’s Bird House
971a Ordze Road
Sherwood Park, Alberta
If you can provide us with the surrendered bird(s)’ supplies, it is appreciated but not necessary.
Birds are examined by a Safehouse team member before they are transferred to the shelter. All birds receive a veterinary health check and follow up treatment, if required. Small to extra-large birds receive a microchip.
Birds remain in our care until a suitable home is found.
Meika’s Safehouse receives many surrendered birds that remain in our shelter for several months or years before a suitable home is found. We take our rehoming responsibility very seriously. To sustain our ability to feed, house, and care for birds in care, we must charge a surrender fee, according to the fee schedule below:

Parrotlets, Turquoisines, Bourkes, Budgies, and Linnies: $20
Cockatiels, Lovebirds, and Doves: $40

Senegal, Meyers, Quakers, and Indian Ringnecks: $60
Small Conures (Pyrrhura): $60

Our Surrender Fee Schedule is reviewed regularly and subject to change, considering current costs and the number of birds and specific species in care.

Surrender fees are non-refundable.
