Hello! I’m Taz

Due to unexpected life changes, my family—who loves me very much—is looking for a new home where I can continue to thrive.

I’m a sensitive and intelligent cockatoo who needs a home filled with love, patience, humour, and long-term commitment. I have many years ahead of me and am looking for someone experienced who understands birds like me and is ready to be my lifelong companion.

I was hatched in 1998 in Northern Alberta and originally purchased from a pet store. Over the years, I’ve had a few homes (at least four that are known), so finding a stable, understanding forever home is very important for me.

I’m in good health overall, though I do have a habit of drinking a lot of water at times, which can make my droppings a bit more liquid during those periods. I also have a BIG personality—and an even bigger voice! I can be very loud and expressive. I squawk, bark like a dog, laugh, respond to doorbells and phones, and even say “Nighty-night, bed-bugs bite.” I also enjoy whispering, singing, and whistling throughout the day.

I’m great about going back into my cage when needed, and I like having a routine. I greet the sunrise and sunset with enthusiastic vocalizations, so early mornings and evenings can be lively!

In the past, I have laid eggs, but this is discouraged by adjusting my environment when I show nesting behaviours. I am not suitable for breeding.

While I can be very engaging, I can also become overwhelmed if handled too much or cuddled excessively. I need someone who understands my boundaries and body language.

Because of my personality and needs, I must go to an experienced cockatoo home only, with no children under 12. Other pets will need to be carefully considered, as I am fearless and should never be left unsupervised around children, birds, or other animals.

The good news? I do step up, and with continued proper training, consistency, and lots of positive interaction, I have incredible potential to become a deeply rewarding and loving companion.
